Brief history about us.
Tradition
plays a large part in family business throughout the area and
Wil-Mac Sales and Service provides yet another testament to the
continuity which comes with such longevity.
WIL-MAC has been in the plumbing and heating business in Coldwater
Mi for over 80 years. In fact, the business began in the roaring
20's when William A. McMillan, grandfather of Wil-Mac's current
owner, William L. McMillan opened a plumbing and heating shop
at 30 S. Monroe Street. Despite the difficulties of the depression,
the business survived and thrived.
William A. McMillan raised his only child, William R. McMillan
in Coldwater. He began his apprenticeship with his father after
returning to Coldwater from a two-year stint in India during
World War II. Eventually, the business passed on to the younger
McMillan and current owner, William L., with his father retaining
an active advisory role until late in his life.
There have been many changes in the plumbing and heating business
in the past 80 years according to McMillan. New technologies
and new environmental awareness has had great impact on techniques
and materials used today. The men at Wil-Mac study current developments
in their field and in the past several years have been affiliated
with the Lennox Industries, which produces HVAC equipment and
accessories.
Despite many changes, something's remain the same. According
to McMillan, strong arms, a strong back and the ability to mimic
a contortionist in close workspaces are a necessity for many
jobs. Mechanical and mathematic abilities are also a must in
a field that requires one to know how to figure pipe capacities,
water pressures, and heat losses. Last, but not least, years
of experience are an asset to anyone in the field who must cope
with a wide array of government regulations, building codes,
safety factors and customer desires.
WIL-MAC's
mission is to provide satisfaction to the customer by
delivering the highest quality service in the most cost
effective way with timely delivery.
